7 things you didn’t know about Elon Musk

As far as Trailblazer’s goes, this man pretty much defines it! Elon Musk may not only be responsible for the electric car revolution, but also for taking human civilisation to Mars! Most people know Musk as the face of Tesla, the electric car company with big plans to completely eradicate the internal combustion engine. However here are 7 things you probably didn’t know about him…

#1

It all started with video games.

Aged just 12, Musk actually created a PC game called Blastar, a blend of Space Invaders and Asteroid. The goal was to destroy the alien freighter carrying bombs and status beam machines. This was to be a successful venture for a young Musk, who sold it for $500 to a magazine called PC and Office Technology, and you can STILL play the came here…..

Mother Musk is a well-known model

Elon’s mother, Maye began her modeling career at the age of just 15 and has continued her successful career right up to the present day. Maye Musk has done it all, from appearances in a Beyonce music video to Virgin America and is probably best known for the work she did with New York Magazine when she appeared pregnant in a pose reminiscent of Vanity Fair’s  iconic photograph of Demi Moore and Annie Leibovitz.

Maye’s recent work includes becoming the newest face of CoverGirl at the age of 69, and tweeted “Beauty is for all ages”

He owns one of the original Bond cars!

Elon bought the original Lotus Esprit used in the 1977 Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me in 2013 for £616,000! In typical Elon fashion he said “I was disappointed to learn that it cant actually transform. What I’m going to do is upgrade it with a Tesla electric powertrain and try to make it transform for real”.

Interestingly, the bond car had actually been lost since its appearance in 1977 but resurfaced (pun intended!) in 1989 after someone paid $100 for a random container, in which the dented icon was rediscovered under blankets.

He didn’t start Tesla.

Today Musk is best known for his affinity with the car company, however Musk originally helped Tesla with the financing of the Model A. In fact, Tesla was spawned by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, both of which desperately wanted to see their prototype of an electric car become a reality.

It’s been said that Musk became a true part of Tesla after he travelled to one of Tesla’s factories in England, only to find that the tools being used were the wrong ones, and that was the tip of the iceberg. Musk and others had invested a total of around $100 million in Tesla without seeing a single car roll of the line. From here Musk quickly took the reins.

He was bullied at school…badly!

These days nobody would dare cross Elon Musk, however quite the opposite occurred curing his school life.

Musk was so heavily bullied at school that on one occasion he was hurled down a staircase and had to be taken to the hospital. On twitter he also revealed he had a “jagged septum” which caused difficulty breathing, another consequence of the bullying he endured.

#6

His parents were worried he was deaf.

Musk would often appear to be daydreaming a lot as a child, totally oblivious to everything. His parents were that concerned they took him to the doctors, who ended up removing his adenoids! But it didn’t seem to make a difference.

We now know that Elon really was in a world of his own, but what a world that’s turned out to be!

#7

He co-founded Paypal.

In the Western world you’ll struggle to find someone who hasn’t heard of Paypal, but that hasn’t always been its name.

In 1998 it was established under the name ‘Confinity’, which later merged with ‘x.com’, an online banking system backed by Musk. This merger resulted in the creation of Paypal, which in 2002 was sold to Ebay for $1.5 billion.
