Kate Stewart is one of Merseyside’s leading female entrepreneurs.

From single mum at 16 to millionaire at 26, the powerhouse made her fortune after opening a series of beauty salons in the North West before turning her hand to property development.

Trailblazer discovered more about the feisty and fearless Ms Stewart over a coffee.

Tell us a bit about what you do?

I’ve got four children and three of them are toddlers so I’m busy looking after them most of the time. I’m no longer in the beauty industry. The business is now purely focused on property development and I’ve got a great team around me, all working on some very exciting projects.

What’s the latest thing you’re working on?

At the moment we’re focussing on a series of residential developments  and potentially a hotel. I can’t say too much about that at the moment but it will be a great addition to Liverpool’s tourism offer. The city is thriving at the moment so it is great to be part of that and contribute to its continued revival.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt?

Never take your foot off the pedal and never depend on anyone to do your job for you. You can only make success happen yourself.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Still working hard. I suppose you could say I’ve always been entrepreneurial, even as a teenager I would work after school and at weekends! I come from a great family but we didn’t have much when I was growing up so I was always driven by making money and providing more for those close to me.

Why is Liverpool the best city?

Our people are our greatest asset. I’ve travelled all over the world but you can’t beat the warmth or the passion of the Liverpool people.  We’ve also got a great sense of humour. I’m so proud to come from Liverpool. It makes me happy when I see tourists enjoying our city too. Liverpool is the best city in the world!

How do you switch off?

It is hard to switch off with a big family and a fast-moving business but usually I like to spend time with friends or read. I also do religious retreats a couple of times each year. It is a very basic existence for a few days but it really helps you to appreciate the smaller things in life that we all take for granted
