Bigger Bags, Better Travel: Ryanair's New Cabin Bag Policy Explained!
Ryanair, the budget airline known for its strict luggage policies, has announced an exciting change that will delight many travelers. Starting in the coming weeks, the airline is increasing the size limit for its free cabin bags by 20% as part of compliance with the new EU regulations. This means passengers can now take a personal item such as a handbag or laptop bag measuring up to 40cm x 30cm x 20cm, a substantial increase from the current maximum of 40cm x 25cm x 20cm. The weight limit for this bag remains at 10kg, and it must fit under the seat in front of you.
This update is particularly significant because it allows Ryanair to offer bags that are one third larger than the new EU minimum size limit of 40cm x 30cm x 15cm. Despite this enhancement, Ryanair’s new policy is still not as generous as its chief competitor, Easyjet, which permits an underseat bag sized 45cm x 36cm x 20cm. Meanwhile, Wizz Air has adopted the same size limit as Ryanair with similar weight restrictions.
While Ryanair has not disclosed the specific reasons behind this increase, it aligns with ongoing EU efforts to standardize luggage size requirements across airlines to ease travel confusion. Notably, a recent vote by the European parliament’s transport committee proposed to give passengers the right to an additional piece of free hand luggage weighing up to 7kg, a regulation pending further approval.
As passengers prepare for future flights, it’s essential to confirm baggage rules directly with the airline to avoid unexpected fees or issues at the airport. With these new dimensions coming into play, travel just became a bit easier for Ryanair flyers!
