Devastating Closure: The Pudding Stop Shuts Its Doors After a Decade

In an emotional turn of events, Johnny Shepherd, a former contestant of The Great British Bake Off, has officially closed all locations of his bakery business, The Pudding Stop, citing significant challenges faced over the years. The closure has led to the tragic loss of 30 jobs, affecting dedicated employees, some of whom had been part of the team for over 10 years.

Founded in 2011 after the success of its Pudmobile—a van selling freshly made puddings at St Albans Railway Station—the bakery expanded to include several shops across Hertfordshire, including notable locations in St Albans, Harpenden, Radlett, and a dedicated bakery in Redbourn. It also operated the Pizza Shop from its Redbourn location, becoming a beloved hub for community members.

In posts shared via the business’s website and on Facebook, Mr. Shepherd expressed the heartache surrounding the closure, stating the decision was made despite the team’s best efforts to keep the business afloat in trying conditions. The announcement emphasized the devastating impact on employees, urging local businesses to reach out for hiring opportunities to support the displaced workers. This closure marks a sad chapter in the day-to-day joys the cake shop brought to its patrons and community.
