**Devastating Job Cuts at Lindsey Oil Refinery: A Community in Crisis**

A shocking announcement has emerged from the Lindsey Oil Refinery in North Killingholme, where nearly one-third of the workforce, totaling 125 employees, will face redundancy by the end of October. Currently, the site employs 255 workers following its takeover by the Insolvency Service in June, after the previous owner, Prax Group, went into administration.

The Unite union has criticized the government for its role in these job losses, arguing it could have taken action to keep the refinery operational and support the workforce. Energy Minister Michael Shanks acknowledged the distressing situation, stating, “Our thoughts are with the workers, their families and the community who have been badly let down by Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery owners”. He emphasized that the official receiver is exploring potential bids to save the refinery and its jobs.

Although most of the workforce will remain beyond October, concerns loom over the future viability of the refinery. The Insolvency Service has prioritized the sale of the refinery, which follows a thorough review of the business’s operations. Yet, the investigation into the conduct of Prax and its directors is ongoing, raising questions about accountability.

Frederick Robinson, a former employee, expressed the dire employment landscape in the area, warning that affected workers may have to relocate or retrain. Local MP Martin Vickers echoed this sentiment, stating that the government’s lack of intervention constitutes a significant setback not only for the workers but for the entire local economy.

Unite representatives highlighted that at least two bids aimed at maintaining the site as a functional refinery have been made, showcasing the union’s desire for a solution that preserves jobs and operations. Mick Simpson, a union official, expressed anger over the lack of urgency from the government regarding potential buyers, stressing the decision’s impact on families and the broader community.
