Ahead of his eagerly anticipated fight night in Liverpool on 18th April against Novak Radulovic, rising welterweight prospect Jack Power has received a helping hand from fellow Runcorn resident and entrepreneur Gary Fredson — a gesture that speaks to the strong community spirit at the heart of this Merseyside town.

Growing up on the streets of Runcorn, Jack Power learned early that progress takes grit. The 30-year-old amateur-turned-professional middleweight has been a familiar face at his local gym for more than a decade, grinding through early mornings and late-night sparring sessions while holding down the kind of day-to-day reality most young fighters know all too well. Now, with a high-profile fight night in Liverpool just days away on 18th April, things are about to get serious when he faces Novak Radulovic.

"Runcorn made me," Power said. "Everything about my style, my determination, my willingness to take a punch and keep moving forward — that comes from where I grew up. This place doesn't let you be soft, and I wouldn't want it any other way."

"When Gary reached out, it wasn't just a cheque — it was someone from home saying they believed in me. That means more than any number."

The financial support behind Power's latest camp has come in the shape of a £6,000 sponsorship deal from Gary Fredson, a fellow Runcorn businessman who has long backed local talent when he sees it. Fredson, who is preparing to open the doors of his latest business venture — Gorilla Storage, a new state-of-the-art self-storage facility in nearby Widnes — says backing a fighter like Power was a natural fit.

"I've watched Jack develop over the years and the kid has got something special," said Fredson. "I'm proud to be from Runcorn, proud of what he represents, and proud that Gorilla Storage can be part of his journey. It costs nothing to support your own — and when you can do it properly, you should."

The gesture is emblematic of a broader culture that defines many of the towns and communities along the northern banks of the Mersey. In places like Runcorn and Widnes, local networks and personal relationships carry enormous weight — a handshake still means something, and a local businessman backing a local fighter is not a PR exercise, it is simply how things get done.

For Power, the injection of funds has had a direct and tangible effect on his preparation. "It means I can focus. I don't have to be distracted by money worries heading into camp. I can eat properly, recover properly, train twice a day without stressing about the rest of it. Gary's investment has given me the best preparation I've ever had ahead of a fight."

The Liverpool fight night on 18th April is shaping up to be a significant step up in profile for Power. Promoters have him pencilled in as one of the standout bouts on the card, and those who have watched him sparring in recent weeks report that he has never looked sharper. At his fighting weight, quick-handed and composed, he carries genuine knockout power in both hands — a trait that earned him his surname long before he threw his first professional punch.

"Gorilla Storage is more than just a business — it is Gary putting something back into the area. Supporting Jack is an extension of that same thinking."

Gorilla Storage, the business at the centre of the sponsorship, is set to become one of Widnes's most modern self-storage facilities. Fredson, who has an established track record across numerous fields of business, has designed the site to serve both local residents and small businesses looking for secure, accessible storage space. The facility offers a range of unit sizes, flexible terms, and round-the-clock access — a proposition that Fredson believes fills a genuine gap in the market on this stretch of the North West.

"The Widnes and Runcorn area is growing. There are people moving in, businesses starting up, families downsizing or upsizing — everyone needs somewhere to put things. We're here to make that as easy and stress-free as possible," Fredson explained. "And if along the way we can help a young fighter from Runcorn chase his dream, that's the kind of business I want to be running."

Those wishing to find out more about Gorilla Storage — whether you need space for a house move, a growing stock room, or anything in between.
