Unlocking Luxury: Airbnb's Bold Move into Bespoke Experiences
In a groundbreaking shift, Airbnb is expanding its offerings by introducing luxury services such as personal trainers, massages, and private chefs through its redesigned app. CEO Brian Chesky emphasizes this initiative aims to combine the advantages of hotel services with the spaciousness that Airbnb rentals provide, catering to evolving traveler preferences.
Initially available in 260 cities, these exclusive services start at prices below $50 (£37.57) and can be booked by anyone, not just guests staying at Airbnbs. Along with these new luxury options, the app features a revamped experiences tab, enabling users to discover unique tours and activities that focus on personalization.
Launched in 2016, this service’s enhancement mirrors a shift in consumer behavior where travelers increasingly prioritize customization over mere functionality in travel. As noted by Gary Bowerman of Check-in Asia, this transformation highlights tourists’ desires to personalize their trips beyond traditional comparisons of accommodation.
The new app also includes an originals tab, showcasing exclusive experiences, such as playing volleyball with Olympian Carol Solberg or spending a Sunday with NFL star Patrick Mahomes. This approach aligns with a broader trend towards unique, off-the-beaten-path adventures as noted by luxury travel consultant Anastasia Oriordan, who points out that the quest for unique experiences continues to evolve as more travelers seek out novel activities in their journeys.
