Arson at Prime Minister's Homes: Second Suspect Arrested in Shocking Case

A second man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged in relation to suspected arson at two properties and a car linked to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, according to the Metropolitan Police. The accused, Stanislav Carpiuc, a 26-year-old Romanian national from Romford, faces charges of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life following fires reported in north London.

Carpiuc was arrested on 17 May and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court to face charges linked to three incidents: a vehicle fire in Kentish Town, a fire at the Prime Minister’s private home in the same area, and another fire at a property previously inhabited by him in Islington. Authorities are still investigating the motive behind these alleged offenses.

Charged alongside Carpiuc is Roman Lavrynovych, a 21-year-old Ukrainian national who briefly appeared in court, denying the charges during a police interview. Lavrynovych, also in construction and an aspiring model, is facing three counts of arson with intent to endanger life. Both men are scheduled to appear together at the Old Bailey on 6 June.

In a separate but related arrest, a 34-year-old man was detained in Chelsea on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson, although his identity remains undisclosed.

The incidents under investigation include:

  • A car previously owned by Sir Keir that caught fire on May 8.

  • A fire at Islington on May 11, which required the intervention of firefighters to rescue an occupant.

  • A fire reported at Sir Keir’s private residence on May 12, where damage occurred but luckily no injuries were reported.

The Prime Minister’s home is currently rented by his sister-in-law. The police have emphasized the seriousness of these incidents and continue to explore the broader implications surrounding the alleged arson attacks.
