**Breach of Trust: Reform UK Councillor's Controversial Expulsion Shakes Devon Politics**

In a recent political upheaval, Ed Hill, a Reform UK councillor elected to Devon County Council, has been expelled from the party following a contentious incident involving a letter he circulated regarding free school meals. The party stated that Hill acted without the consent of his fellow Reform Devon councillors, leading to concerns about misrepresentation and damaging the party’s integrity.

The situation escalated after Hill reported two colleagues to the police concerning election expenses. The Reform UK spokesperson condemned Hill’s actions, highlighting that using colleagues’ names without permission is entirely inappropriate, regardless of the good intentions behind the letter. Hill defended his actions, claiming a misunderstanding as he believed he had permission to add his colleagues’ names. He expressed disappointment over the lack of communication before the expulsion, stating, “I think it feels like an overreaction and I’m still committed to the Reform cause.”

The fallout has also seen Michael Fife Cook, leader of the Reform group on the council, emphasizing that such misconduct is unacceptable, reinforcing that disciplinary measures were unavoidable. Meanwhile, Devon and Cornwall Police are conducting inquiries into the reported election expenses, but no arrests have been made as the investigation continues. With 17 members in the Reform group, Hill’s departure underlines the challenges of maintaining unity and communication within political parties, especially in sensitive political climates.
