Electrifying the UK: Nissan Launches Cutting-Edge Leaf From Sunderland Factory

Nissan has officially revealed its new Leaf electric vehicle, marking a significant leap in its electric vehicle production in the UK. This third-generation Leaf, set to roll out from the Sunderland factory, highlights Nissan’s commitment to electric mobility. With an impressive range of up to 375 miles (604km) on a single charge, this model signals a further shift towards sustainable transportation.

Manufactured by a skilled team of 6,000 workers at the Sunderland plant, the Leaf will utilize batteries supplied by AESC UK, which is strategically located adjacent to the factory. This development showcases Nissan’s integration of local resources into its production line, reinforcing the strength of UK manufacturing in the evolving automotive industry.

Alan Johnson, Nissan’s senior vice president of manufacturing, emphasized the pride in unveiling this advanced model, which combines cutting-edge technology with aerodynamic design. He noted that it reflects the high level of skill within the Nissan workforce, contributing to the UK’s reputation as a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing.

James Taylor, managing director of Nissan GB, reinforced the importance of the Leaf, calling it a pioneering electric vehicle that has motivated many to transition toward electric motoring, with the added benefit of being built in Britain. This launch is part of Nissan’s broader EV36Zero project, aimed at enhancing sustainability in vehicle production.

Additionally, earlier this year, Nissan announced a significant investment of £1bn for a new AESC UK battery plant, indicating strong future growth and commitment to the electric vehicle market in the UK. This initiative positions Nissan at the forefront of electric vehicle innovation.

Stay tuned as the new Leaf becomes available for order later this year!
