Arson Spree Targets Properties Linked to PM Keir Starmer: Arrest of Ukrainian Suspect

A dramatic court hearing unfolded as Roman Lavrynovych, a 21-year-old Ukrainian builder, was remanded in custody after being charged with multiple counts of arson connected to properties linked to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Facing three charges of arson with intent to endanger life, Lavrynovych did not enter any pleas during a brief session at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. He was only able to confirm personal details through an interpreter.

The allegations include fires at two residential properties and a vehicle on the same street as the prime minister’s previous residence in Kentish Town, London. Notably, an accelerant of a ‘slow-burning nature’ was reportedly used in at least one incident, as detailed by prosecutor Sarah Przybylska. The investigation, led by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terror Command, was sparked due to the high-profile connections of the case.

Emergency services responded to a fire early Monday at the Kentish Town home, which sustained damage to its entrance but fortunately resulted in no injuries. This property is reportedly rented by Starmer’s sister-in-law. Additional incidents included a car, previously owned by Starmer and sold to a neighbor, being set alight a few days prior. Another fire incident at a house converted into flats in Islington also raised alarms, leading to intervention by firefighters who evacuated one person internally.

Lavrynovych’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 6 at the Old Bailey, where he will face a plea and trial preparation hearing. The motives behind the alleged arson remain unexplained, as Lavrynovych reportedly denied the charges during police interviews.
