Social Media Sparks Controversy: Mosque Chair Faces Suspension Amidst Hamas Debate

A Green Party councillor and chair of Easton Mosque, Abdul Malik, is facing a potential three-year suspension from the Charity Commission due to a controversial social media post about the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th. Following this attack, which led to the deaths of around 1,200 individuals and the taking of more than 250 hostages, Malik shared a post containing a Hamas video, which he initially claimed he was tagged in before admitting to its share. The Charity Commission’s investigation stems from this act, resulting in his suspension and the possibility of barred participation as a charity trustee.
